ICSP – Product Setup Product
Setting up a new part record in Sx.e.
Not all of the time should part numbers be set up in Sx.e. If the item is an odd size, shape or otherwise not normal as a repeated sale/request from our clients – do not request an item set up. Only items to be stocked with multiple customers in mind, should be set up.
Adding items in Sx.e should only be performed after it has been verified that is not already set up. Due diligence by both operations and Inventory needs to be performed before the setup process begins. The goal is to ensure that duplicate items are not set up for the same item. Sometimes, it might seem as though there are duplicates items due to brand name differentiation. Even though items appear the same, different manufactures may have different warranties, cost/price and overall quality. It is important to recognize these differences and activate different items number per instance. Clearly label bin locations and educate employees on differences that could otherwise be missed to the uninformed. Other times, one part number will due for items that are more generic like wire and do not have unique branding identification or quality factors.

Product: item number typically should be the vendor’s part number. There are other ‘rules of thumb’ to be inserted here…. All new items are set up with the vendor part number. There are existing parts where we have a prefix and are leaving it, for example NDS.
